ACE EPIC NPS NE: Niobrara Nat'l Scenic River Nature Club and River Internship- AmeriCorps
Summary: American Conservation Experience, a Non-Profit Conservation Corps based in Flagstaff, AZ, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking ONE After School Nature Club Co-Coordinator and River Intern to dedicate 12 weeks in support of Niobrara National Scenic River. The main duties include assisting with an after-school nature club for middle school students, giving programs, preparing equipment/sites for programs, and active student management.
This opportunity is intended for conscientious, enthusiastic, individuals with an interest in developing their skills in interpretation and youth education.

Compensation: The ACE interns receive a living allowance of $200/week for food and incidental expenses, paid bi-weekly. Housing will be provided to the intern at no extra cost.
Housing will be in a bunkhouse-style facility on the Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge, with shared rooms. Other temporary residents will include USFWS professionals and those the FWS invites. Free laundry facilities and a nice, large kitchen are included on-site.
AmeriCorps: This position may be eligible for one 450-hour ($1,538.36)AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of internship service hours. Additional enrollment is required.
Position Description:
Primary responsibilities for this position include:
- Conducting an after-school nature club for middle school students. This will involve assisting with coordination, assisting with giving programs, preparing equipment/sites for programs, and student management
- Presenting Junior ranger programs
- Assisting with ranger-guided canoe programs
- Possibly giving or assisting with educational programs/field trips
- Giving informal programs to visitors
- Answering questions and providing information at the visitor center desk
