Natural Resources Environmental Intern

Natural Resource Supervisory Intern

10 weeks, at $16.00/hour

Qualifications: must have completed at least 2 years of, and be currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary school.

As a member of a team consisting of one high school teacher, one college intern, and approximately 8 high school students, complete environmental projects throughout Rusk County. Samples of projects include trout stream rehabilitation, stream bank erosion control, associated recreational facility construction, fisheries and wildlife habitat, and many more.

Specific Duties May Include:
·     Planning daily activities for the resource team
·     Coordinating staff
·     With direction from the sponsoring group and high school teacher, participate in and supervise the
construction of projects
·     Securing to the job site materials needed for construction
·     Maintaining a record of daily activities
·     Compile and present to the public a summary of the team’s accomplishments using pictures, videos,
posters, and PowerPoint
·     Assist in general office and clean up duties, assuring proper completion of each job site, equipment
repair, and work area cleanliness

Skills and Education Needed:
·     Currently enrolled in, and completed at least one year, in an accredited college, university, or
technical school
·     Ability to use common power tools such as chainsaw, skill saw, and hand tools
·     Knowledge of basic engineering and construction principles
·     Ability to work with limited supervision, independently establish priorities and complete tasks
·     Ability to effectively communicate with individual landowners and team members and make
presentations to groups
·     Possess a valid state issued driver’s license and be able to operate trucks and boats
·     Working conditions will include walking over outdoor terrain, working in lakes and streams, carrying,
lifting, and exposure to the elements
