The School District of La Crosse is accepting applications for a 10 month (210 day) School Nurse.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Required experience and training:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Professional nurse licensed to practice nursing in Wisconsin by the Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing per Chapter 441, Wisconsin Statutes
CPR/First Aid certification

B. Preferred experience and training:
Master’s degree in nursing
Experience as a school nurse
Pediatric, acute care and public health nursing experience
Experience in delegation, training, supervision, and evaluation of nursing cares

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Promote and protect the optimal health of school-age children enabling them to benefit from educational programs.
2. Provide Emergency Nursing Services management during the school day and school activities for assigned schools:
a. Accidental injury
b. Acute and chronic illness
c. Administration of medication per Section 118.2 WI.s.
d. Nursing policies and procedures
e. Medical Response Team Training
3. Utilize clinical nursing judgment and related skills to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate school health care services.
a. Gather appropriate data and legal documentation necessary for implementing nursing care including physician orders and Parent/Guardian authorization.
b. Develop plan of care appropriate to provide safe care for students’ needs.
c. Determine appropriate staff training, supplies, and equipment for care during the school day.
d. Demonstrate proficiency in nursing skills.
e. Evaluate effectiveness and students’ response to care.
f. Monitor medication administration for safe practice.
g. Participate in staff health training.
h. Report appropriately to the Director of Student Services.
4. Evaluate and assess the health care services necessary to maintain a child with health care needs safely within their educational program.
a. Review the medical history and interpret the health status of students to parents and school staff.
b. Identify student’s health care needs and develop Individual Health Plan.
c. Plan intervention.
d. Document care provided and student’s response on an ongoing basis.
5. Delegate nursing acts to school personnel according to the Nurse Practice Act including:
a. Training
b. Evaluation
c. Supervision
d. Documentation
6. Participate in Special Education Services by contributing to the IEP and Section 504 process with formal and informal consultation with physicians, parents, teachers, and other student services staff.
7. Supervise immunization programs at assigned schools, including:
a. Maintain recordkeeping, parent communication and information, physician contact, as necessary.
b. Monitor compliance with current State immunization laws.
c. Process legal notices, public health and district attorney reports as required by state law. 
d. Facilitate school-based immunization clinics provided by public health agencies.
8. Provide Communicable Disease surveillance and management including:
a. Monitor communicable disease according to school district policy, state, and local health department guidelines.
b. Establish safe school attendance without risk of infection to students or staff.
c. Assist staff and students to implement infection and bloodborne pathogen control practices in the classroom and workplace. 
9. Serve as a child advocate and liaison between home, school, physician and community agencies for health management and disease prevention.
10. Coordinate vision programs at assigned schools to promote optimum health and educational success of students.
11. Serve as a member of the School District Medical Advisory Committee.
12. Complete other tasks as assigned by Director of Student Services.
