ORGANIZATION SUMMARY:
Our mission is to expand economic development opportunities and build wealth for low- to moderate-income entrepreneurs in north Minneapolis and surrounding communities. We fulfill our mission by working one-on-one with entrepreneurs to provide technical assistance, training and workshops, marketplaces, financial assistance, the NEON business incubator and co-working/office spaces.
 
JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to further our mission and develop small businesses in the communities NEON serves. The Business Advisor – Accounting is accountable for working with NEON clients to offer business technical assistance, design, develop and conduct trainings and case management services.
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide accounting services and financial consulting to NEON clients
  • Work with a variety of micro entrepreneurs and offer a broad range of accounting and finance services from full-service accounting with on-going assignments, short-term projects, and regulatory report preparation.
  • Selected applicant will also have the opportunity to work in collaboration with the team’s leadership in development of services quality controls and internal review processes.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or Financial Management required
  • Experience in accounting/financial management required
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency of GAAP accounting principles
  • Knowledge of financial accounting and Point of Sale (POS) software: i.e.: Quickbooks, Square, TurboTax
  • Preference in financial reporting and/or other IRS tax preparation
  • Experience in accounting and financial process design and development
  • Experience in working in diverse environments with clients of varying economic backgrounds
 
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Experience in client management, financial and business plan development
  • Excellent organization, multi-tasking, proactivity, listening and communication skills when interacting with clients and NEON staff
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP principles, best practices and federal and state /regulatory reporting requirements
  • Training, consulting and presentation skills
  • Ability to analyze financial data, prepare GAAP formatted financial reports, budget and financial forecast
  • Ability to work effectively independently, in a team environment, and in collaboration with diverse groups
  • Commitment to quality customer service and excellence
